Alati To Assume Duties As Leader Of The Conference of Presidents
At a recent meeting in Tuckahoe, New York, The Conference of Presidents of Major Italian American Organizations elected John Alati, Past National President of UNICO National, to serve as Chairman for the next two years. Elected as Vice Chars were: Salvatore Zizza, Pres. National Italian American Foundation (NIAF); Larry Auriana, Chairman Columbus Citizens Foundation; Vincent Sarno, Pres. Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) and Joseph Guagliardo, Pres. National Council of Columbia Associations of Civil Service
In accepting the Chairmanship Alati stated "When I was President of UNICO National we made one of our commitments the enhancement of communication between UNICO, OSIA and NIAF. Thanks to the very positive response we received we were able to take several steps towards a more unified Italian-American posture, in several important areas. My hope is we will expand this collaborative effort to include all those organizations that are members of the Conference of Presidents”.
This group was established in 1974 to facilitate communication between the numerous Italian American (IA) organizations throughout the United States. As a body, it offers an opportunity to elevate the dialog between its member organizations in order to share ideas, identify issues affecting the Italian American community and unite in working on solutions. The group has also been recognized by the Italian government as a liaison to the Italian American community in America.
John Alati has been looked upon as a leader of the Italian American community throughout the country. In 2002 he assumed the Presidency of UNICO National, the largest Italian American service organization in the United States. During his term as President, the organization made numerous contributions to many worthwhile causes including: the “V Foundation for Cancer Research: Cooley’s Anemia; various mental health associations; Italian Studies Chairs at Montclair State Univ. and Stony Brook Univ.; the National Italian American Museum and Concordia Language Village, as well as many local charities and scholarships.
On a professional level, John is a New Jersey Licensed Entertainment Agent and is a principal of LaGuardia & Associates Entertainment Inc., an entertainment and production company. John has also served in various positions as both an elected and appointed government official in New Jersey for over 30 years.
Alati is a graduate of Villanova University, earning his degree in Business Administration. He currently resides in Verona, NJ with his wife of 33 years, Linda-Gail. They have two children, Danine of Hoboken, NJ and John of Los Angeles, CA. |
